خلاصه مقاله: Background and Objective: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is the presence of pathogens in the urinary tract. Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most important causes of this type of infection. Tetracycline is one of the widely used antibiotics for the treatment of infections with significant therapeutic effect due to its broad spectrum. The aim of the present study was to determine the presence of tetA gene in Klebsiella pneumoniae strains isolated from UTI . Materials and Methods: This study was performed on 164 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from UTI in Gerash city (Fars province) from January to August 2021. The antibiotic resistance pattern of Klebsiella pneumoniae strains were investigated by Kirby-Bauer method. Genomic DNA extraction was done by use of chloroform-phenol-isoamyl alcohol method and for the presence of tetA gene, PCR method was used. Results: Of 164 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae, 72 strains (43.90%) were resistant to tetracycline. 48 strains (66.66%) had tetA gene. Conclusion: Tetracycline-resistant strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae have a relatively high prevalence in Gerash. The presence of high tetracycline resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae strains as a common cause of urinary tract infection in Gerash is a concern. Key words: Urinary tract infection, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Antibiotic resistance pattern, tetA gene
