زمینه و هدف

Health care workers (HCWs) need to perform new preventive measures to protect themselves and patients against ongoing COVID-19 transmission, which can increase the occurrence of hand dermatitis (HD) among them. HCWs are at higher risk of developing HD. As HD affects the quality of life and productivity of HCWs, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence of HD among HCWs and its possible risk factors in IRAN.

روش کار

: A survey of 159 HCWS working in university hospitals affiliated with Birjand University of Medical Sciences was performed between August to September 2020. Research data were collected via standardized self-administered questionnaire. The history of HD was determined via standardized Nordic Occupational Skin Questionnaire (NOSQ-2002), which including two forms: the first form included questions about demographic information, and the second form included questions about the occupational and environmental risk factors for formation of HD, and its symptoms. In this study, having any of dermatitis-related symptoms over the last six month was considered as dermatitis. The reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed by calculation of Cronbach's α coefficient (82%). Chi-square and Logistic regression tests were used for data comparisons. Data analysis were done using SPSS version 18. P-value 0.05 was considered as significant threshold.

یافته‌ها

A total of 159 HCWs participated. Based on the results, the prevalence of HD in the study population was 51.6%. The prevalence of HD was 3.84 fold higher in female than in male. Besides, the prevalence of HD in the group older than 40 years and the group aged 30-39 years was 9.6 fold and 1.72 fold higher than the group aged 20-29 years, respectively. These differences were statistically significant (P 0.01). Furthermore, the prevalence of HD in HCWs who working 50 hours or more per week was significantly lower than those who working less than 50 hours per week (OR = 0.29). Additionally, Results obtained from Chi-square showed a significant association between the prevalence of HD and wearing gloves (P 0.05).

نتیجه‌گیری

HD affects 51.6% of HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our results showed that, possible risk factors for HD among HCWs are female gender, older age, and wearing gloves. As HD is one of the most common occupational diseases, these data may help hospitals to provide educations for HCWs to prevent HD, especially for those who have more risk factors.
