Evaluation of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect of alcoholic extract of Moringa Peregrina leaves on the hippocampus of hypoxia rat

Background and Aim
Hypoxia is a condition that occurs in various diseases including ischemia, heart disease, bleeding and leaves irreversible effects. This study was performed to investigate the effects of alcoholic extract of Moringa Peregrina leaf, which is a rich source of various antioxidants, on the hippocampal area of the hypoxia model. In this study, 40 Wistar rats were used, which divided into four groups.
A,Control group (no intervention). B,Moringa extract group (Moringa extract was given to rats by gavage). C,Hypoxia group (rats were exposed to hypoxia with 8% oxygen concentration for 30 days and 4 hours per day). D,Treatment group (After each episode of hypoxia, rats were given a specific dose of the extract by gavage). Finally, the hippocampus of rats was removed and the RT-PCR technique for IL-18, IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α gene expression evaluation and the ELISA technique for the evaluation of MDA, GPx, CAT and SOD activity were used. HIF-1α gene expression was also measured to confirm the hypoxia model.
According to the results, the expression of inflammatory genes in the hypoxia group increased significantly compared to the control group and in the treatment group, the expression of these genes decreased significantly in comparison to the hypoxia group. Also, the activity of enzymes in the hypoxia group was significantly reduced compared to the control group and in the treatment group, the activity of these enzymes was significantly increased in comparison to the hypoxia group.
Alcoholic extract of Moringa peregrina leaves due to its high content of various antioxidants, can have a high effect on reducing oxidative esterification and significantly reduce the side effects of hypoxia.
