Background and Aim

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common nosocomial infections. Today there are reports that the prevalence of methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus aureus is increasing in different parts of the world. The aim of this study was to investigate the molecular identity of Staphylococcus aureus genes isolated from lung secretions of patients admitted to the intensive care unit

Methods

This cross-sectional descriptive study was performed on 60 hospital samples. First, biochemical tests were performed on the samples to isolate and confirm the genus Staphylococcus aureus. After bacterial enrichment and isolation and DNA extraction, mec A and Luk S / F-PV genes were evaluated by multiplex PCR.

Results

The results showed that from a total of 60 samples, 20 isolates of Staphylococcus aureus were isolated. In these 20 isolates of Staphylococcus aureus, the frequency of Luk S / F-PV gene was reported in 12 isolates and the frequency of mec A gene was reported in 8 isolates, of which 4 isolates had both genes

Conclusion

According to the results of this study, it can be said that due to the importance of Staphylococcus aureus as the most important pathogen in developing countries and due to increasing consumption and resistance to antibacterial agents, it poses a serious threat to public health. Multiple PCR is a simple, sensitive, low-cost, relatively fast, and highly specific method that can detect multiple genes in bacterial strains simultaneously
