Evaluation of active constituents and antibacterial activity of aqueous and methanol extracts of Rumex alveollatus against Klebsiella pneumoniae

Background and Aim
Antimicrobial resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniaehas been increasing in recent years Therefore, many efforts have been made to find new active plant compounds as an appropriate substitute for antibiotics. This Evaluation of active constituents and antibacterial activity of aqueous and methanol extracte of Rumex alveollatus against Klebsiella pneumoniae
This study was performed on standard strain of Klebsiella pneumoniae and a number of clinical strains. The aqueous and methanol extracts of Rumex alveollatus were prepared by Soxhlet apparatus. Antibacterial activities of extracts were evaluated well diffusion method. Also minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and MBC were assessed by microdilution method. Active compounds were identified by gas chromatography-mass. The data obtained by new SPSS software was analyzed.
Inhibitory zone of methanol (500 mg/ml) on standard and clinical strains of Klebsiella pneumoniaewere 20.83+0.78 and 18.10+ 1.04 mm, respectively and also inhibition zone of aqueous (500 mg/ml) on standard and clinical strains of Klebsiella pneumoniaewere 16.00+1.00 and 13.10+ 1.04 mm, respectively. MIC results for methanol and aqueous extracts were 125 and 250 mg/ml, respectively. The highest compound isolated from the extract (1,2-Benzenedicarboxylic Acid, Diisooctyl Ester), (Benzene, 1-Methyl-2) and (1,4-Cyclohexadiene, 1-Methyl-4) 22.25%, 18.1% and 13.8%, respectively.
Rumex alveollatus methanol and aqueous extract have good antibacterial activity against tested bacteria. Therefore, the results of this study can be a valuable report regarding their effective role in infection control.
